What do you think of the cops, and criminal justice system in general, where you live?

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

Here the police go around giving out jaywalking tickets; ’smoking too close to a business’ tickets, etc. Yet there are ***** and meth houses right on my block–that generate a huge amount of traffic–and they do nothing.

Here, the criminal justice system is looking for money. Fines galore; for things you wouldn’t give a second thought to. People who haven’t done anything really wrong are sent to prison–simply because they can’t pay the fines.

I was always taught that the policeman is your friend–not so, not when they are just looking for the worst in people–and usually lean toward those who are law-abiding citizens.
VermilionPhoenix–I am the most law-abiding citizen I know–I do NOT associate with trouble-makers at all.
CGIV76–At the ‘few and far between’ police stations here (it’s like, don’t call us, we’ll call you…), one only gets to see a receptionist–and needs to show him/her their ID through a window in the bullet-proof glass.
It’s not just ‘my block’–it’s everywhere in town–even in the newest (and richest) sections.
slimthing–No, I don’t live in LA–or in CA, at all. The NY police were nice, generally speaking–not like in the Northwest and Southwest.

Is an AS degree in Criminal Justice like having a second high school diploma?

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

Several people I know have degrees in Criminal Justice. So do I. Is Criminal Justice the most over rated degree?
The several people I know that have this degree where they earned it from ranges from Ivy league universities to local community colleges to online colleges to obscure community colleges.
How did race get into this? One of the several people I know who has this degree is a Black woman, that is working as an Executive Administrative Assistant. Apparently she can’t get into anything CJ related either. She was also enlisted in the US Army for a couple of years.

Is Criminal Justice a growing career field?

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

I think I want a career change. I’ve been doing clerical work for over 15 years. There are many tv ads offering criminal justice classes. Just wondering would it be worth it to take the plunge and go for an Associates Degree.

What impact does the jury system have on the rest of the criminal justice system?

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

How would criminal justice function differently if defendants had no right to a trial by a jury of their peers, which is the situation in virtually all of the non-Common Law nations of the world? Fully explain your response, and provide a source from the internet to support your response.
